Albany Panthers Announce Two Major Signings

ALBANY, GA (FEBRUARY 9. 2012) – The 2011 Champion Albany Panthers continued bolstering their roster on Thursday adding two key defensive all-stars in defensive back Damian DaniDamianDanielsels and linebacker Ryan Babb.

Damian Daniels (5-10 185, West Georgia) comes to the Panthers after spending the last five seasons with the Columbus Lions.  In those five seasons, Daniels earned four Defensive MVP’s trophies, which includes the distinction of having three MVP trophies from three different leagues (2007-WIFL, 2009-AIFA, 2010-2011 SIFL).  “Nighthawk”, as Columbus fans have come to know him, grabbed a league-leading 18 interceptions last season pushing his overall total to 76.

Ryan Babb (6-0 215, Troy State) has been a vital member of the Lions linebacker core for the p ast three seasons.  Despite early injury troubles, Babb finished the 2011 season with 22.5 tackles and one sack.  Over his three-year stand, Ryan proved to be a huge game-changer on defense as he  collected 15 interceptions along with returning six back for touchdowns.

Daniels and Babb were local high school grads and helped the Lions attain their one and only championship back in 2010.  The duo will first see their former teammates for the first time on April 21st when Columbus comes to the Albany Civic Center followed by making their return to the Columbus Civic Center on Saturday May 5th.

Albany’s training camp opens on February 26 with their season opener taking place on Saturday March 17 when they host the Richmond Raiders.  For more information about all six training camps, log on to www.proifl.com and for all game updates throughout the season be sure to “Like” us on Facebook.
