By: Matthew Hester “We are just trying to extend our contract back to a five-year deal to be playing here in Albany until 2016,” says Albany Panthers General Manager Will Carter. “We just want to move forward here and play football.” City commissioners approved a new lease to allow the Albany Panthers to continue playing at the Albany Civic Center through 2016. For the club, the new lease reduces the rent and allows the Panthers to keep a greater percentage of concession revenue. In return, team owner Rod Chappell and the club agreed to provide new financial information to the city to prove he and the teams are stable. The deal was necessary considering the Panthers along with five other clubs joined the Professional Indoor Football League for the 2012 season. Their previous deal with the city of Albany was signed in accordance with the clubs membership in the SIFL. Albany will begin their championship reign on Saturday March 17th when they host the Richmond Raiders in the Albany Civic Center.
